We’re revisiting a topic that once kept our teams up at night: accreditation materials.

𝐀 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭: The client issued a long-overdue tender for ACR materials, covering everything from paper, pouches and wristbands to printers.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭? Zero responses. And less than three months before kickoff.

🚨 Crisis mode activated 🚨
A frantic supplier search began to secure timely delivery. We recommended trusted partners we regularly work with at major events — reliable, experienced but more expensive than the other options.
For cost reasons, the client opted for an “in-house” workaround, relying on suppliers unfamiliar with this type of operation.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞? Materials did not match. Printers couldn’t print with the paper ordered.

After several crisis meetings, we implemented corrective and secure solutions, but ultimately had to print on plain white paper, and then cut and laminate each pass afterward. Not only did this ruin the look and feel of the accreditation, it also created a significant security risk.

𝐁𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭?
• Production expenses doubled
• Human workload multiplied
• Unnecessary stress for all stakeholders
• Higher risks of counterfeit while using plain paper

This month’s feature: The Geoff Incident – Wimbledon 2013 🎾 A credential hiccup worth retelling 😀

During the 2013 Wimbledon Championships, a BBC journalist — young, female, and clearly not named Geoff — was issued an accreditation pass featuring the photo of an older, bearded man. The error wasn’t caught until she arrived at the gates, where security hesitated briefly before waving her through after a quick explanation.

Inside the press tent, the mix-up quickly became legendary. Colleagues dubbed her “Geoff” for the rest of the tournament. Emails arrived addressed to Geoff. Lunch reservations were made under Geoff. Even player introductions began with, “Geoff from the BBC.”

She later shared how the mistake turned into a running joke that lightened the mood during a high-pressure fortnight, and how the pass itself became a collector’s item among amused colleagues.
